How the casino-hotel ranking is scored

This site ranks casino hotels as buildings with beds, windows and public rooms. The score is not a measure of gambling, dining breadth or brand size. It is an editorial mark, out of 100, built from five weighted criteria and limited to facts that could be checked in the current research file.

The ranking / How we score

Scoring criteria for the Canadian casino-hotel ranking
CriterionWeightWhat counts
View30Published room or suite outlooks: falls, river, lake, marina, skyline, racetrack or city views, with more credit when tied to named categories.
Room stock and categories25Verified or qualified room count, named room types, suites, bed layouts, sizes, accessibility notes and enough detail to choose a room.
Building and public spaces20Towers, connected buildings, theatres, convention rooms, atria, gallerias, pools, spas and public interiors described by official or qualified sources.
Newness or renovation15Opening years, hotel additions and dated refurbishments, especially when they affect guest rooms or major public spaces.
Transparency of published facts10How much the resort itself publishes, and how many important facts depend on secondary sources, blocked pages or unavailable current pages.

The object being judged

The unit of comparison is the hotel stay attached to, or forming part of, a casino resort in Canada. A large gaming floor does not by itself improve a mark. A large tower with poorly described rooms may still lose points to a smaller property that names its categories, publishes its views and explains what has changed.

The ranking on the ranking is therefore a rooms-and-views order, not a casino order. The same logic governs the comparison table, where room counts are shown with their source quality and a blank or qualified entry is not quietly repaired. If a resort does not publish a room total, that absence matters. If a room count comes only from a press release, tourism listing, directory or secondary source, it is labelled accordingly.

The critic’s question is simple and rather old-fashioned: what is the building like as a place to sleep? The answer gives weight to the actual view from the room, the clarity and range of room categories, the architectural and public-space evidence, the age or recentness of the hotel fabric, and the amount of verifiable information the venue makes available. Casino entry ages, regulators and help lines are handled separately by the template and by the province pages; they do not add romance to the score.

The five criteria

The score is out of 100. Each hotel receives marks only for details supported in the facts file. A named category such as a falls-view room, racetrack-view room, penthouse suite or accessible room can count where the hotel or a reliable source publishes it. A generic promise of comfort counts for much less. Storeys are used only where the facts give a high-confidence figure; otherwise the text describes the building without pretending to know its height.

View carries the largest weight because this is a site about rooms with a view. A falls, river, lake, skyline, marina, racetrack or city outlook is not treated equally in every case. The scoring asks how specific the view is, whether it is attached to named room categories, and whether the window is central to the stay rather than incidental to a restaurant or lounge.

Room stock is the second-largest item. A hotel with a verified room count, several named room types, suite sizes and bed layouts gives a reader more to work with than a venue whose hotel page cannot be reached or whose room categories are not published. Building and public spaces follow: towers, connected theatres, convention rooms, gallerias, atria, pools, spas and other public interiors count when their materials, capacities or arrangements are actually described. Newness is narrower: an opening year, hotel addition or dated refurbishment can improve a score, but only when the change affects the hotel or public rooms being assessed.

How missing and secondary facts affect the mark

The ranking is intentionally conservative. Where the resort’s own pages publish a fact, it is preferred. Where the fact comes from a secondary source, the profile says so. Secondary material can still be useful: it may be the only available source for a tower year, architect, room count or opening date. It does not receive the same confidence as a venue page, and it cannot be allowed to fill every gap.

Some properties publish unusually full room pages. Others publish a hotel name, a booking engine and little else. A low transparency score is not a moral judgement; it is a practical warning to the reader. The desk cannot recommend a view category with the same confidence if the hotel does not publish the categories, the room count, the renovation history or the view language. On hotel profiles, that limitation is stated rather than disguised.

Blocked, unreachable or JavaScript-only pages create another problem. Casino Rama Resort’s official site could not be reached in the research pass. Caesars Windsor’s current pages were blocked, leaving an official fact sheet and secondary sources. Cascades Casino Resort Langley’s casino site could not be read by the fetcher, although the Coast hotel pages and older Gateway material supplied some facts. In these cases the score may reward what is known, but it also charges for what could not be verified.

Independence, referrals and the desk

The order is this site’s own. It is not copied from another guide and is not arranged by operator, province, casino size, entertainment calendar or loyalty programme. The scores come from the five criteria on this page, applied to the ten profiles in all ten profiles. If a resort later publishes better room data or completes a dated refurbishment, the mark can change on the next editorial update.

The site is independent of the hotels, provincial lottery corporations and regulators. Its funding is explained on how this site earns: hotel-booking referrals may support the work when a reader books through a link or asks the desk to arrange a stay. That commercial mechanism does not set the editorial order. A hotel does not receive extra points for having a more convenient booking path.

The desk exists for a narrower task. A reader may ask it to check a room category, view direction or date-sensitive condition before a stay. That is especially useful where a hotel has similar category names, where a published view is broad, or where renovations and closures are current. For questions about the editorial process, the background is kept on this page and in about; for practical room-checking, use ask our desk.
