Questions about the casino-hotel ranking

This page answers the routine questions behind a deliberately narrow ranking: where to sleep, what the room faces, how much the hotel publishes, and how the building works as a place to arrive and leave. The casino is recorded as part of the property, not as the reason for the order.

The ranking / FAQ

Before using the list

The main list ranks ten Canadian casino hotels by rooms, views, architecture and interiors. It is not a gambling guide and it does not rank casino floors. The scoring method is set out on how we score, while the comparison table puts the room counts, view types and province ages side by side. Readers who already know the property can move directly to all ten profiles.

Each profile links to the hotel’s official site only. Where a resort does not publish a room count, storey count, renovation date or view category, the text says so. A building with a fine address but little published room information can therefore rank below a more prosaic hotel that tells the sleeper exactly what is being sold.

What is this site ranking?

The ranking orders ten Canadian casino hotels as places to sleep. The emphasis is the room, the window, the building and the public spaces, not the casino floor. A hotel with a clearer view category, better-published room stock and stronger building facts can outrank a larger gaming property. The main ranking is at /, with individual hotel profiles linked from /hotels.

What are the scoring criteria?

The score uses five criteria: view, worth 30 points; room stock and categories, 25; building and public spaces, 20; newness or renovation, 15; and transparency of published facts, 10. These weights are this site’s own method. They are explained on /method, and scores are computed only from the facts available in the research file for each property.

Why does the view count more than the room category?

The view is weighted highest because a casino hotel often trades on its site: a falls edge, a riverfront, a lake, a racetrack, an airport approach or a low-rise resort setting. A named room category matters too, but a category with no reliable view promise is less useful to a sleeper than a plainly described window. The site therefore separates the label from what the window actually faces.

What does ‘room stock and categories’ mean?

It means the published supply and the way rooms are sold: total rooms where available, named room types, bed types, suite names, sizes where published, accessible categories where listed, and whether view categories are clear. Fallsview Casino Resort, for example, publishes named room and suite categories; Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto publishes room types including Premium, Racetrack, Corner Suite and 2 Bedroom Suite. Other properties publish less.

Why do some room counts say secondary source or not published?

A room count is quoted with its source quality. If the resort or hotel publishes the number, it is treated as the strongest source. If the number comes from tourism bodies, press material, directories or other secondary sources, the profile says so. If the resort’s own pages do not publish a figure, the text says not published rather than importing a convenient number from elsewhere.

Does a hotel lose points for not publishing facts?

Yes, under the transparency criterion. A property may have a good building and a useful location, but if it does not publish room counts, room sizes, view categories, renovation dates or public-space details, the score reflects that absence. This is not a moral judgement. It is a reader-service judgement: a person choosing a bed should not have to infer the basic facts from fragments.

What entry ages apply at these hotels?

Entry age follows the province, and each hotel profile states the relevant age once. Ontario casino entry is 19. British Columbia is 19. Alberta is 18. Québec is 18. These ages concern entry to the casino areas, not every hotel corridor or restaurant. For province-by-province notes, including regulators and help lines where verified, see /provinces and /responsible-gaming.

Do you take hotel bookings?

The site does not take card details and does not process a booking on the page. Each hotel profile points to the hotel’s official site. The desk can also check a room by email: dates, number of people, preferred hotel and room or view request. The booking itself is completed with the hotel or booking partner, not through a gambling account and not through this FAQ.

How independent is the ranking?

The ranking is editorial. The site is not affiliated with any hotel, OLG, BCLC, AGLC, Loto-Québec or provincial regulator. The business model is disclosed separately on /how-we-earn. Referral revenue does not determine the order. The order follows the published method: view, room stock, building and public spaces, newness or renovation, and transparency of facts.

Why are casino details included at all if the site is about rooms?

The casino is part of the building complex and affects arrival, public spaces, age rules and sometimes restaurants, theatres and parking. It is therefore described factually. The site does not suggest gambling as the reason to stay, does not offer online gambling, and does not rank bonuses, games or casino promotions. The reader is choosing a hotel room and a window.
